A spectacular evening at the Montesilvano track: Colombia and Italy shine as the top nations

The passionate crowd and curious spectators filled the stands, transforming the track into a roaring stadium with every overtaking move, lap completed, and victory celebration with arms raised. Colombia and Italy stood out as the top nations of the day.

Bart Swings competed in three finals in a single day, in addition to all the qualifying rounds. A true king of the inline speed skating world.

The evening kicked off with the long distance finals: 10,000m for Juniors and 5000m points race for Seniors.

In the Junior Ladies, Daniela Bustamante led a significant part of the race, but the dominance of the Colombian duo was undeniable in the end. The podium saw Maria Vargas claim gold with a powerful final sprint, followed by Yicel Camila Giraldo Vasquez, while Daniela Bustamante of Venezuela secured third place.

The Junior Men’s race was exceptional. The strong Metodej took the lead with four laps to go, but a surprise attack from Spain’s Adrian Alonso nearly upset the Czech skater’s plans. In a thrilling final lap, Colombia’s Carlos Pasciotti stormed ahead, clinching his first gold of the championships. Metodej held on for silver, while Alonso secured bronze.

Moving to the Senior categories, the Ladies’ 5000m points race was a fast paced showdown. Team Chinese Taipei’s strategy was clear, attempt a breakaway, and Yu Hsin Chang executed perfectly, collecting numerous points early on. Athletes like Italy’s Edda Paluzzi, Colombia’s Gabriela Rueda, France’s Marine Lefeuvre, and others competed fiercely for every point, making the outcome uncertain until the very end. The final podium saw Yu Hsin Chang take gold, Italy’s Edda Paluzzi earn a well-deserved silver, and Colombia’s Gabriela Vargas claim bronze.

The men’s race, as expected, was lightning fast, with continuous attacks and counterattacks. Bart Swings, Belgium, Giovanni Trebouta, France, and Juan Mantilla, Colombia, broke away, Swings and Trebouta secured most of the points as Mantilla couldn’t keep up. They got reached with just a few laps to go, but a new breakaway by Paraguay’s Julio Milena saw him pocket crucial points. The final podium: Bart Swings took gold, Giovanni Trebouta silver, and Julio Milena bronze.

The night ended with the sprint races: 500m for Juniors and 1000m for Seniors.

In the Junior Ladies’ final, two Colombians and two Italians lined up. Dairy Londono Cardenas took the early lead, but Italy’s Sofia Paola Chiumiento, with a heart stopping final straight, overtook her to claim her second gold of the championships. Italy’s Rita De Gianni rounded off the podium with a strong third finish.

In the Junior Men’s 500m, Juan Yepes was very fast, while his teammate caused controversy by blocking the competitors, leading to a disqualification. Juan Yepes kept his gold, followed by Jacob Melton, who secured the first medal for the United States, and Italy’s Giacomo Gobbato in third.

The Senior 1000m races delivered pure spectacle. Maria Fernanda Timms clinched victory with a champion’s sprint, followed by teammate Kollin Castro in second and Colombia’s Gabriela Vargas in third.

The men’s final was nothing short of high-power action. Italy’s Giuseppe Bramante launched Duccio Marsili at the right moment, setting him up for an explosive finish. Marsili battled with Belgium’s Bart Swings, but it was the Italian who crossed the line first, arms raised in triumph, with his signature hawk arrival. Swings took second, and Chile’s Hugo Ramirez completed the podium in third.
